Candidates Set for GaBio Gubernatorial Primary Forums in May

ATLANTA (May 13, 2010) – Life sciences economic development, science education and the impact of federal health care reform will be the major topics of discussion at Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidate forums in May organized by Georgia Bio (GaBio) and hosted by Kennesaw State University’s (KSU) College of Science and Mathematics.
Both forums will be held in Kennesaw State’s College of Science and Mathematics Auditorium. The Democratic candidates’ forum is set for Thursday, May 20, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. The Republican candidates’ forum will be held Thursday, May 27, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required through GaBio’s website: www.gabio.org. All Democratic and Republican candidates have been invited.
From the Democratic Party, Attorney General Thurbert Baker, former Governor Roy Barnes, Bill Bolton, Mayor Carl Camon, State Rep. Randal Mangham, State Rep. Dubose Porter and General David Poythress were invited. Mr. Baker, Mr. Camon, and Mr. Poythress have confirmed their participation.
From the Republican Party, State Sen. Jeff Chapman, former Congressman Nathan Deal, former Secretary of State Karen Handel, former State Senator Eric Johnson, Ray McBerry, Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, and Otis Putnam were invited. Mr. Deal and Mr. Putnam have confirmed their participation.
The moderator for both forums will be Richard Warner. Mr. Warner is a longtime radio and television business commentator in Atlanta, including more than a decade on FOX5’s “Good Day Atlanta” and 30 years at Georgia Public Television.
Georgia Bio (www.gabio.org) is the non-profit association representing pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and diagnostic companies, healthcare systems, universities, research institutes and other organizations involved in the research and development of life sciences products that improve the health and well-being of people, animals and the environment.
Kennesaw State University is the third-largest university in Georgia, offering nearly 70 graduate and undergraduate degrees, including doctorates in education, business and nursing and a new Ph.D. in International Conflict Management.
KSU’s College of Science & Mathematics offers baccalaureate degree programs in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biochemistry computer science, information systems, information security and mathematics, and master's degrees in applied computer science, information systems, applied mathematics and statistics, and masters of arts in teaching science or mathematics. Cutting-edge certificate programs also are offered in forensic chemistry, and regulatory affairs & clinical trials, among other offerings.
