Sciele Pharma, Inc., a Shionogi Group Company, Announces Name Change

Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka; President: Isao Teshirogi; hereafter “Shionogi”) today announced that its U.S.-based group company, Sciele Pharma, Inc. (hereafter “Sciele”), and two group companies have changed their company names as detailed below.
1. New Company Name (old company names are shown in parentheses)
(1) Shionogi Pharma, Inc. (Sciele Pharma, Inc.)
(2) Shionogi Pharma Sales, Inc. (Sciele Pharma Sales, Inc.)
(3) Shionogi Ireland Ltd. (Sciele Pharma Ireland Ltd.)
2. Effective Date of Name Change
January 11, 2010 (Eastern Standard Time)
3. Reason for Name Change
Since Shionogi acquired Sciele in October 2008, it has strengthened its sales infrastructure in the United States, established a stronger management foundation and reduced its reliance on the Japanese market. At the same time, Shionogi has also increased its efforts to strengthen its pipeline of drug candidates, implemented business structure improvements and fostered global human resources, thereby allowing the Shionogi Group to improve its long-term growth prospects. This change will enhance Shionogi’s brand equity, increase a sense of unity and strengthen Shionogi’s brand awareness globally.
