ATLANTA, GA (January 6, 2010) – Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. President Stephen Hill has been named Chair of the Georgia Bio Board of Directors and Aerovectrx CEO Thomas Callaway has been named Vice Chair.
Stephen Hill, BM, BCh, MA, FRCS, and Thomas Callaway, M.D., MBA, assume leadership of GaBio in the midst of enormous challenges and opportunities for the life sciences industry. With dramatic health care reform looming, the election of a new Georgia governor, and an uncertain economic recovery, the industry is coping with changes that will force companies in new directions as they battle to develop innovative treatments and cures for the most intractable conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, neurological disorders and infectious diseases.
GaBio likewise is embarking in new directions to assist its members in navigating the ever-more demanding regulatory and market environments. It also is mobilizing to take advantage of the excitement generated by the 2009 BIO International Convention, held for the first time in Atlanta. The convention solidified Georgia’s reputation as a global center of life sciences innovation. To build on this success, GaBio has adopted an aggressive mission and strategic plan to advance the growth of the life sciences industry and foster strategic partnerships that can create a healthier world.
GaBio’s members comprise an industry association with a record of achievement in three areas critical to the state’s future: improving the health of people, animals and the environment; expanding the number of high paying, advanced technology jobs; and enhancing K-12 student achievement in science education.
“Drs. Hill and Callaway provide GaBio’s Board of Directors with the leadership to launch initiatives that can help our members succeed in their endeavors and make our state a premier location for life sciences industry development,” said Charles Craig, GaBio President.
