Carol Henderson named Director of Georgia’s Innovation & Technology Office

ATLANTA, GA —Carol Henderson has been named Director of the Innovation & Technology Office at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD).
“I’m proud to announce Carol Henderson’s elevation to the Director of Innovation & Technology Office,” said Heidi Green, deputy commissioner for global commerce at GDEcD. “Carol has proven her experience and leadership since joining GDEcD seven years ago, and I know she’ll continue to build on those skills to recruit innovative companies to Georgia.”
Henderson will lead the Innovation & Technology Office’s efforts in identifying and recruiting innovation-based companies to the state and assisting existing strategic industry-based businesses. She will also focus on strategic planning and building on existing alliances and resources such as the University System of Georgia, the Centers of Innovation, Georgia Research Alliance, Georgia Biomedical Partnership and Biotechnology Industry Organization.
Henderson brings more than a decade of experience in economic development to the table, most recently as a senior project manager for GDEcD who focused on the life sciences industry. In this capacity, she worked with an array of life sciences companies including Novartis, Merck, Dow, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Genetech, Solvay and Merial. Henderson came to the department in 2000. Prior to joining GDEcD, Henderson worked for economic development organizations in her home state of Indiana.
Henderson holds a B.S. in Public and Environmental Affairs and an M.P.A. from Indiana University. She is active in organizations such as the Technology Association of Georgia, Women in Technology, National Association for Female Executives, Georgia Biomedical Partnership and the Georgia Economic Developers Association. She is certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional and holds certificates in project management and public management.
