Georgia Life Sciences Coalition (GLSC)

In 2011, the Georgia Bio Board of Directors, on recommendation of the Government Affairs Committee, approved launching an aggressive legislative education effort with Georgia’s state government officials and Congressional delegation.

The strategy involved forming the Georgia Life Sciences Coalition (formerly the Georgia Biosciences Organization), a 501(c)(6) non-profit sister organization, to oversee the effort and hire a contractor. The organization collects funds separately from Georgia Bio, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Funds collected for the GLSC are targeted specifically for legislative education and are not tax deductible for contributing companies and organizations. Contributions to Georgia Bio will remain tax deductible according to its 501(c)(3) status.

To assist us in working with state and federal officials, the GLSC has hired Charles E. "Chuck” Clay of Nelson Mullins. Mr. Clay has experience in public service and private practice. He has a diverse background as a prosecutor, legislator and community leader. He has served in public office as an Assistant District Attorney, Cobb County Commissioner and State Senator, including serving as Senate Minority Leader. He served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Georgia during the George W. Bush 2000 campaign for President. Mr. Clay received his law degree from the University of Georgia Law School, and his BA degree from the University of North Carolina.
