The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced Emory University and food and pharmaceuticals testing company Eurofins Scientific will create a joint genetic testing lab in DeKalb County.
The venture will create more than 50 jobs and generate $16.9 million in economic development in DeKalb.
More than 100 high paying jobs, including those in laboratory personnel, billing, logistics, informatics, and marketing and sales, will be retained.
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg-based Eurofins signed a joint venture in June 2015 with Emory Genetics Laboratory (EGL) in which it acquired a 75 percent stage in EGL for about $40 million. The center will now be renamed EGL Genetic Diagnostics LLC, and Eurofins will also open an off-campus location.
Tucker, Ga.-based EGL is projected to grow exponentially in the next few years. The facility will expand by 61,024 square feet for a new laboratory for genetic testing, and in the next three to five years it could expand up to 165,000 square feet to house up to 500 employees.
