Cardiac implant company joins Health Wildcatters’ third startup class to advance development of its patent-protected device that will reduce the risk of stroke in atrial fibrillation patients
ATLANTA – August 26, 2015 – Flow MedTech, an Atlanta-based medical device company, announced today that the company was accepted to the 2015 class of Health Wildcatters, a leading healthcare startup accelerator program located in Dallas, Texas. The company’s main product is a medical device that will prevent clot formation in a pouch off the side of the heart known as the left atrial appendage, significantly reducing the high risk of stroke for patients suffering from atrial fibrillation.
The team will begin the 12-week, intensive program this month alongside nine other teams from around the country with companies that span the healthcare spectrum.
“We are overjoyed and thankful for the opportunity to join Health Wildcatters and get the chance to work not only with an inspiring group of mentors but also with the other exceptional health startups,” said Flow MedTech Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder, Arnab Chakraborty.
Christine Hang, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder, added, “Health Wildcatters provides us the opportunity to meet distinguished mentors and investors that we would not typically be able to meet otherwise. We look forward to pursuing Dallas’s strong investment opportunities, especially within the healthcare community here.”
During the program, startups receive guidance from Health Wildcatters’ extensive network of investors and mentors. The program also provides access to office space and other strategic resources that help the companies grow.
Flow MedTech applied to the program because of the quality of investors and mentors that actively participate during the program, especially those with reputable backgrounds in the cardiology and electrophysiology specialties.
“Flow MedTech is a great company for our program, and they already have a lot of the right pieces in place,” said Dr. Hubert Zajicek, Health Wildcatters CEO. “The team has an impressive healthcare background and an equally impressive board; however, medical device companies have unique challenges in commercialization. Our program can help overcome these challenges and round out the business side of things to expedite their path to market.”
Startups will focus on refining their pitches throughout the program, which culminates with a final “Pitch Day” in November. By focusing on the pitch, Health Wildcatters aims to set the teams up to successfully raise capital after the accelerator. They have been successful thus far, with the first two startup classes raising more than $10 million after participating in the program.

About Flow MedTech
Flow MedTech is a medical device startup based in Atlanta, GA and focused on preventing strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation by targeting the left atrial appendage (LAA). The LAA is known to be a breeding ground for clot formation, and 90% of clots in the brain have been traced to the LAA. The patent-pending technology, developed by Georgia Tech biomedical engineering alumni, prevents clot formation by blocking blood flow into the LAA and thus significantly reducing the high risk of stroke and saving the lives of millions of atrial fibrillation patients.
