More than 300 attendees enjoyed facility tours, special speakers at Oct. 23 event

November 6, 2014 (Atlanta) — The Atlanta Center for Medical Research (ACMR), a national leader in research studies since 1980, recently held a grand opening event celebrating its newly renovated research facility in southwest Atlanta. The $25 million facility, which goes by the name of its anchor tenant, Atlanta Center for Medical Research, is located at the site of the former Southwest Atlanta Hospital building at 501 Fairburn Road, SW.

At the free public event held on Thursday, Oct. 23, more than 300 community members and invited guests enjoyed complimentary refreshments and special tours of the 150,000 square foot research facility. Special guest speakers Atlanta City Council Member, Clarence T. Martin, Metro Atlanta Chamber Vice President of Economic Development and Industry Expansion, David Hartnett, President and CEO of Georgia Bio, Russell Allen, and ACMR’s own Director of Operations, Eric J. Riesenberg, shared their insights on the positive impact that the new facility will have on the community and biosciences industry.

“We were very proud to welcome our new community and distinguished guests to the facility,” stated Riesenberg. “We look forward to utilizing its groundbreaking resources to raise the standard for medical research.”

Prior to the event, Mayor Kasim Reed commended ACMR for its innovative industry leadership. “The opening of this state-of-the-art research facility is more proof that Atlanta is on its way to becoming the health technology capital of the southeast,” said Mayor Reed. “The ACMR complex will bring revitalization and hundreds of well-paying jobs to the southwest Atlanta community.”

Boasting 150,000 square feet of space redesigned and renovated by Arberg properties, the research facility is the first of its kind and promises to be the new crown jewel of Atlanta’s medical community. Each aspect of the facility has been specifically designed to conduct research studies that will help assure faster, more accurate data to develop safe and quality medications for patients everywhere.

With more than 30 years of experience, ACMR will continue to conduct both outpatient and inpatient clinical trials in Phase I, first-in-humans, through Phase IV of industry-sponsored pharmaceutical trials at the new research facility. ACMR will also introduce a novel open-source structure, allowing other leaders in the field to access the facility’s state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained staff to conduct research on site.
