BAINBRIDGE, GA- Meredian, Inc. opened its doors for the first time to guests and officials at the Grand Opening of the Meredian PHA manufacturing plant in Bainbridge, Georgia on Oct. 25th. Special guests included Georgia Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr., who spoke enthusiastically at the event saying, “It is success stories like this in Bainbridge that will propel our nation forward and strengthen our economy for the future.”
All guests were given a full tour of the PHA plant, providing them with the opportunity to view the process of utilizing renewable, natural resources to produce PHA biodegradable plastic. Officials were interested to hear that Meredian’s world-class, high tech manufacturing facility will be producing over 300,000 tons of PHA per year when at full capacity.
“Meredian’s Grand Opening event was a huge success and we couldn’t have been happier to share our plant’s introduction with our investor’s, community members, customers and our local, state and national elected officials,” says Blake Lindsey, President and Co-founder of Meredian. “Our team looks forward to moving ahead with PHA production and expanding our facility in the amount of product we produce as well as hiring additional employees as needed.”
With a current production rate of 30 million pounds, or 15,000 tons annually, the Meredian PHA plant today is the largest plant of its type in the world. Meredian, Inc. is projected to continue at a rapid rate of growth both in production output and job creation. With the area’s unemployment rate among the highest in Georgia, Meredian will aid the region by creating skilled worker positions as well as the ancillary jobs created through the use of regional suppliers of materials and transportation.
