BioProductCampAtlanta – a 360 degree perspective of the life cycle of a drug or device
What is it? BioProductCampAtlanta has its roots in the tradition of the BarCamp http://barcamp.org. “BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event.” These kinds of events are self assembling in real time. The participants make the agenda on the day of the event – so come ready with a presentation and a laptop so you can share your knowledge. Service providers are encouraged to present but please refrain from using your company’s logo on your Powerpoint deck. You are here to share and learn – not sell your business. BioProductCampAtlanta is designed to develop leaders in our life science industry and promote the commercialization of our innovations. The service provider community has a great deal to offer but please come ready to give of your knowledge and learn from the knowledge of others.
How does it work? The unconference is created by the people that attend it. On the morning of the event, during the networking session, people who want to present will write the five word title of their talk on a giant Post-It sheet in the lobby. There will be four categories of presentations: science, business, legal and marketing/other. Then everyone will gather in the auditorium. After a few opening remarks, the people who want to present will line up in the aisle of the auditorium and give 30 second elevator pitches about their content. The audience will take notes and pick their three favorite events. Each attendee will be given three green stickers. Then the audience will go out into the lobby and put a green sticker next to their three top picks. The leading topics will be given priority. The topics that don’t get as many stickers may be encouraged to combine with another similar topic to provide wider content. Come ready to be flexible and have fun.
Who should attend? Anyone interested in drug or device commercialization. Participants with backgrounds in science, business, finance, law, venture capital, marketing, communications, real estate, human resources, recruiting and insurance are welcome to attend.
Why are we doing this? The purpose of this event is to develop leaders in our industry and promote the commercialization of our innovations. It will allow current and future entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain access to the full spectrum of the information they need to launch a pharmaceutical or medical device technology.
What is the attire? Comfortable clothes - There will be a lot of brain power being used and we want to be comfortable.
What is the cost? The cost of this BioProductCamp is free and is brought to you by the Center of Innovation for Life Sciences and generous industry sponsors.
What can I present? Participants can present seminars on commercialization, intellectual property, FDA regulations, marketing, communications, real estate, insurance, funding or anything else relevant to our industry. They can be very basic discussions about a topic (e.g. patent fundamentals) or very advanced (ramifications of the Bilski decision). Presentations should be 30 minutes long with 10 minutes for discussion. If you do not get enough votes to present, you may be able to combine with another presenter and come up with a completely new topic that will attract a different audience than you originally expected.
