Event Description:

Swissaustral takes business to the extreme. The startup biotechnology company isolates novel enzymes from organisms adapted to life in extreme climates for industrial applications. Known as extremophiles, the organisms are found in "uninhabitable" areas like deep sea hydrothermal vents and polar ice caps, where they have evolved a unique set of tools to cope with their life in harsh environments. Swissaustral has an extensive library of extremophilic bacteria and archaea from which industrial enzymes can be isolated and supplied to meet specific customer needs.

Swissaustral was founded by UGA graduate Dr. Jenny Blamey in Chile, and in 2013, the company joined the UGA Innovation Gateway Incubator to develop its North American market. Dr. Felipe Sarmiento, Business Innovation Director of the Swissaustral office in Athens, received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from UGA and has extensive experience with extremophilic and anaerobic microorganisms. He will share his experience in opening the Swissaustral Athens office, and talk about the challenges the company has faced and its plans for future growth.
We hope you will join us to learn more about Swissaustral!
