Georgia Bio is the only state-wide trade association for the life sciences in Georgia and serves as a catalyst to ensure Georgia is a global leader in the biosciences by creating a cohesive community that unites our companies, universities, research institutions, government groups and other industry associations. A respected voice at the State Capitol, Georgia Bio has been successful in working collaboratively to pass legislation that is positive to the industry while working to defeat proposals that would be detrimental to the life science industry in Georgia. Georgia Bio staff working at the federal, state and local level interact with relevant elected and appointed officials and other industry groups for the best interests of member companies.
Georgia Bio conducts programs, provides leadership and advocates for life science companies across Georgia that are critical to improving patient care, improving health globally, and to the economic growth of our state. Georgia Bio identifies opportunities to bring together the various stakeholders in our community to work cooperatively with industry to develop a shared vision, a set of goals, and recommendations for strategies that will support and enhance Georgia's bioeconomy.
Georgia Life Sciences Coalition
The Georgia Bio Board of Directors, on recommendation of the Government Affairs Committee, approved launching an aggressive legislative education effort with Georgia’s state government officials and Congressional delegation in 2010. The strategy involved forming the Georgia Life Sciences Coalition (GLSC), a 501(c)(6) non-profit sister organization, to oversee the effort and hire a contractor. This investment has been used to educate the elected officials about the significance of the life sciences industry to Georgia’s economy and the health and well-being of people, animals and the environment.
